Columbia City Centennial Celebration

We’re turning 100! Incorporated in 1926, the City is celebrating a century of history this year. Check back here for all the details on the events and happenings we have in store.

Coloring Contest To celebrate Columbia City’s Centennial, a coloring contest is being held for children up to the 4th grade.

  • There are 2 different coloring sheets available to choose from
  • Coloring sheets can be picked up at either City Hall or the Library
  • Be sure to complete the back of the coloring sheet with the child’s name, age and contact phone number
  • One entry per child
  • Entries must be received by 5 pm on Friday, May 15th for Judging at City Hall
  • Each child submitting a color sheet receives a treat
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Winners will be selected
  • All entries will be on display at the Centennial Celebration in the Community Hall

Essay Contests To celebrate Columbia City’s Centennial, two essay contests are being held for older students, one for grades 5th through 8th and one for grades 9th through 12th.

  • Topics for the essay are as follows: My Life in Columbia City, If I Ran the City or Columbia City in 2126
  • Essays should express the student’s original thoughts on one of the three topics listed above in 250 to 1000 words
  • Essays are not required to be typed, but must be easily read and understood
  • On a separate cover sheet from the essay submittal provided your name, grade and phone number
  • Entries must be received by 5 pm on Friday, May 15th for Judging at City Hall
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Winners will be selected for each contest

  • 4-6 PM – What is That? Game – Columbia City Community Library
  • 4-5 PM – Old Time Games with Prizes – Columbia City Grade School
  • 4-6:30 PM – Photobooth with 1920’s Props – Caples House Knapp Center
  • 4-7 PM – Family Games – on the lawn at Caples House
  • 4-6:30 PM – Caples House Tours – Caples House
  • 5-6:30 PM – Food Served – Caples House
  • 4, 4:45 & 6 PM – History in Motion Bus Tours – catch the bus in front of the school
  • 5-6 PM – Ice Cream – Pixie Park
  • 5-7 PM – Live Music by the Horn Dawgs – I Street by the Community Hall
  • 4-7 PM – History Display – Columbia City Community Hall
  • 4-7 PM – Coloring Contest Display – Columbia City Community Hall
